Every dispensary has a version of the same story. Someone eats a gummy, feels nothing after twenty minutes, eats another, and then spends an uncomfortable evening wishing they had waited. It is the most common beginner mistake, and the most avoidable.
Why edibles feel different
When you inhale cannabis, it reaches your bloodstream quickly. When you eat it, it travels through digestion first. The result is a delayed onset, often anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, and effects that can last noticeably longer than inhaled products. The delay is the trap. The product is not weak just because you do not feel it yet.
How to think about dosage
Edible doses are measured in milligrams of THC. Some basics:
- Check the serving size, not just the package. A single chocolate bar or bag of gummies may contain several servings.
- Beginners often start small. Many people new to edibles begin with a low single-digit milligram dose. Ask our staff what makes sense for you.
- Wait before taking more. Give it at least two hours. Patience is the whole strategy.
- Remember that your experience is personal. Body, tolerance, what you ate, and your mood all play a part. Nobody else’s dose is a reliable guide for yours.
That is what “start low, go slow” really means: take less than you think you need, then wait longer than feels natural.
Safety and storage
Edibles look like regular snacks, which is exactly why storage matters.
- Keep them locked up and out of reach of children and pets. Treat them like any other adult-only product.
- Store in the original packaging. It carries the dosage information and warnings.
- Label anything you repackage, and never leave edibles where someone could mistake them for candy.
- Never drive or operate machinery after consuming.
- Do not combine without thought. Mixing cannabis with alcohol makes things less predictable.
If you took too much
